Batcave โ€” LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight Guide

Master the Batcave in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. Complete customization guide covering 250+ decorations, display cases, the upgrade workbench, and theme customization.

The Batcave is your central hub in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight — a fully customizable underground base where you display your collection, upgrade your gear, and plan your next move. With over 250 decorations, multiple display cases, and a workbench upgrade system, the Batcave is as much a part of your progression as the story itself.

Batcave Overview

Located beneath Wayne Manor, the Batcave serves multiple gameplay functions:

  • Customization Hub — Arrange and display your growing collection of decorations, suits, and vehicles
  • Upgrade Station — Use the workbench to upgrade Batman's gadgets, suit abilities, and traversal tools
  • Mission Select — Replay completed story missions, access Free Play mode, and launch side missions
  • Fast Travel Destination — Return to the Batcave instantly from anywhere in Gotham via the portal
  • Collection Viewer — Browse all unlocked suits, vehicles, and decorations in one place

Decoration System

The Batcave decoration system is the game's primary collection mechanic. With 250+ decoration items spread across themes, finding and placing them transforms the Batcave from a bare cavern into a personalized headquarters.

Decoration Themes

Decorations are organized into three main themes, each with a distinct visual identity:

Gothic Theme

Dark stone, gargoyles, candelabras, and medieval-inspired furnishings. This theme leans into Batman's shadowy, gothic roots and pairs well with the cavern's natural rock formations.

Modern Theme

Sleek metal surfaces, holographic displays, neon accents, and clean minimalist design. A high-tech aesthetic that transforms the cave into a futuristic command centre.

Classic Theme

Vintage crime-solving memorabilia, retro computer banks, Golden Age Batman artefacts, and warm wood tones. This theme evokes the 1940s serials and Golden Age comics.

How to Find Decorations

  • Story Missions — Many decorations are awarded for completing chapters
  • Side Missions — Gotham's side content rewards decorations
  • Hidden Caches — Explore thoroughly; decorations are hidden in out-of-the-way locations
  • Vendors — Purchase decorations from in-game shops using studs
  • Challenge Rewards — Complete combat, racing, and puzzle challenges
  • DLC & Promotions — Special decorations from DLC packs and promotional events

Display Cases

The Batcave features dedicated display areas to show off your collection:

Suit Display

Mannequin displays that showcase your unlocked suits. Select which suits are visible on display stands throughout the cave. With over 100 suits, rotating your display is part of the fun. The display area can be expanded as you collect more suits.

Vehicle Display

A dedicated vehicle bay that shows your unlocked Batmobiles, Batcycles, and the Batwing. Vehicles are displayed on rotating platforms with ambient lighting. Show off your favourite Batmobile variant or display them all.

Trophy Room

A section of the Batcave dedicated to achievements and major milestones. Boss trophies, challenge completed markers, and 100% completion rewards are displayed here. The trophy room grows more impressive as you complete the game's major content.

Workbench Upgrades

The workbench is where you invest studs and collected resources into permanent upgrades. The upgrade tree includes multiple branches:

Upgrade Branch Effects Resource Cost
Batarang Increased damage, ricochet targets, concussive batarang (stun) Studs + Token
Grapple Gun Longer range, faster retraction, silent zip Studs + Token
Utility Belt Increased gadget capacity, faster gadget switching Studs + Token
Glide Cape Faster glide speed, longer distance, tighter turns Studs + Token
Detective Mode Extended range, faster scan speed, hidden object highlighting Studs + Token
Combat Training Combo multiplier increase, special move unlock, counter window extension Studs + Token

Upgrade tokens are earned through completing missions, finding hidden caches, and reaching collectible milestones. Plan your upgrade path based on your playstyle — combat-focused players may want to prioritize the Batarang and Combat Training branches first.

Special Unlocks

Several unique Batcave features and items require specific actions to unlock:

  • WB Games Account Bonus Suit — Register a WB Games account to unlock the Golden Age Batsuit for display in your Batcave
  • LEGO Set Cross-Promotion — Purchase real-world LEGO Batman sets to find unlock codes for exclusive Batcave decorations and even a special Batmobile

Batcave Tips

  • Visit Regularly — New upgrades and customization options unlock as you progress. Check back after each story chapter.
  • Experiment with Themes — You can mix and match themes. A Gothic cave with Modern technology accents creates a unique look.
  • Prioritize Workbench Upgrades — Gadget upgrades directly affect gameplay. The concussive batarang is especially valuable for dealing with armoured enemies.
  • Use the Batcave Portal — Fast travel to the Batcave is free and instant. Use it as a hub between exploration sessions.
  • Decorations Affect Progression — Some milestones are tied to total decoration count. Reaching thresholds unlocks additional content.
