Commissioner Jim Gordon suits up as a fully playable character for the first time in a LEGO Batman game, and his defensive toolkit brings a fresh playstyle to the roster. While Bruce operates from the shadows, Gordon operates from the front line — absorbing damage, immobilizing threats, and protecting allies. If you enjoy playing the support role in co-op, Gordon is your character.

Unique Gadgets

Foam Sprayer

The Foam Sprayer is Gordon's signature gadget and one of the most versatile tools in the game. Unlike standard weapons, the foam has both combat and utility applications:

• Enemy Immobilization — Spray enemies directly to encase them in quick-hardening foam. Immobilized enemies cannot attack and can be shattered with a melee hit for bonus studs.
• Platform Creation — Spray foam onto designated wall panels to create solid platforms. These are essential for reaching elevated areas that other characters cannot access.
• Fire Suppression — Foam extinguishes flames on contact. Use it to clear burning obstacles and create safe passage for your team.
• Bridge Repair — Some gap crossings require you to spray a continuous foam bridge. Hold the fire button and sweep across the gap.

The Foam Sprayer has limited capacity shown by a pressure gauge. It recharges automatically when not in use. Manage your foam carefully — running out mid-combat leaves you without your primary crowd control tool.

Police Baton

Gordon's melee weapon of choice. The baton has longer reach than standard fist attacks and deals respectable stun damage. Charged strikes knock enemies back, creating space when you are surrounded. The baton can also be used to pry open certain sealed containers that require leverage rather than raw strength.

Reinforced Shield

Gordon's special ability sets him apart from every other character. When activated, the Reinforced Shield provides:

• Frontal Damage Immunity — While the shield is raised, Gordon takes zero damage from the front. This includes melee attacks, gunfire, and even some boss attacks.
• Ally Protection in Co-op — When playing co-op, you can shield another player by positioning yourself between them and the threat. The shield covers a 120-degree arc.
• Shield Bash — Press the attack button while shielding to perform a forward charge that knocks down all enemies in your path. This breaks through enemy guard stances.
• Projectile Reflection — Time your shield raise just as a projectile hits to deflect it back at the attacker. This is particularly effective against gun turrets.

The shield has a stamina meter. Sustained blocking drains it, and if it empties, Gordon is briefly stunned. Lower the shield between attacks to let stamina regenerate.

Crowd Control Specialist

Gordon excels at controlling the flow of combat. Open every encounter by spraying foam at the largest group of enemies — this instantly removes them from the fight and lets you focus on remaining threats. Prioritize immobilizing fast-moving enemies first, as they are hardest to hit with direct attacks.

Co-op Support Role

In co-op, Gordon's value multiplies. Your role is to:

• Draw enemy aggro while your partner flanks from behind
• Immobilize enemies so your partner can perform free takedowns
• Use the shield to protect your partner during boss attack sequences
• Create foam platforms to help your partner reach high collectibles

Platforming and Exploration

Gordon's foam platforms open up exploration paths that other characters cannot access. When exploring Gotham, watch for marked wall panels that indicate foam-receptive surfaces. These often lead to hidden collectible stashes and shortcut routes between areas.

Combat Combos

• Foam → Shatter — Spray an enemy, then immediately melee them. The shatter deals bonus damage and scatters foam shrapnel that briefly slows nearby enemies.
• Shield Charge → Baton Strike — Knock enemies down with a shield charge, then follow up with a charged baton strike on a standing enemy for heavy damage.
• Deflect → Counter — Deflect a projectile back at a gunner, then close distance with a shield charge while they are staggered.

Tips and Strategies

• Conserve foam for important moments — Foam recharge is slow. Do not waste it on single enemies when your baton can handle them.
• Use the shield proactively, not reactively — Hold it up when you see enemies preparing ranged attacks, not after they fire.
• Foam is also for traversal — If you are stuck in an area, look for foam-receptive panels. They are usually marked with a distinctive hexagonal pattern.
